SRP Roofshield was developed
in Scotland after extensive research conducted by both the A. Proctor
Group and Don & Low Nonwovens. Their combined efforts resulted in
the creation of a truly unique product that addresses the many needs
of sloped roofing construction. SRP Roofshield is
a 3-ply spun bonded polypropylene fabric that is used as a breathing
underlay for sloped roofs. It is waterproof, U.V. stabilized, rot
proof & tear resistant.
Functions
SRP Roofshield
provides:
Secondary roof membrane
The primary function of sloped roofing products is to keep moisture out of
a building. Due to our severe climate, these various products are subjected
to a variety of conditions, which at times can allow moisture to enter into
the system. SRP Roofshield is essentially a secondary barrier
to this moisture. It is a great "back-up" product, while it does not compromise
the integrity of the roofing assembly.
"Dry-in" waterproofing during construction
In both new construction and retrofit work, timing is a large factor in the
process. In new construction, closing in the building to allow interior work
to begin quicker is a tremendous advantage. In retrofit work, the ability
to remove the entire existing roof assembly at one time provides an enormous
cost saving for the project. SRP Roofshield allows this
process to happen, because once installed, SRP Roofshield keeps
the building's interior dry while construction continues.
Long-term condensation control
The concept of an underlayment may not be new in the construction industry,
but the ability to provide a product that is able to keep moisture out while
still allowing your building to breathe is unique. During construction and
after occupancy, moisture enters the roof assembly by various means. SRP
Roofshield allows that moisture to continue to filter out to the
exterior of the building. Trapped moisture can cause timber rot, swelling
and distortion of timbers, corrosion of metal, and the reduction in insulation
thermal value.
Reduces risk of mould and mildew
The subject of mould and mildew is of great importance and concern in the construction
industry today. The concept of "sick buildings" is a term that all designers
and building owners are aware of and are trying to prevent. The fact is,
products which do not allow your building to breathe adequately, may actually
be trapping in moisture, which is the primary cause of mould. SRP
Roofshield does not restrict the movement of moisture out of the
building, and with a perm rating of 212, is one of the most breathable products
in the market today.
